Indian opticals major GKB has rebranded to drop ‘Opticals’ from its identity, marking a formal strategic move into high-end fashion, luxury accessories, and experiential retail. Timed alongside the inauguration of its 100th store - a flagship 1,000-sq-ft experience center in Mumbai - the retailer appointed actor Sanya Malhotra as brand ambassador to drive its fashion-first narrative among style-conscious consumers.
Leveraging experiential retail and global brand partnerships
As eyewear transitions from clinical necessity to a core lifestyle accessory, organized chains are heavily investing in store design and high-margin portfolios. GKB’s experience format integrates 3D virtual try-ons, digital lens mapping, and Vision Lounges alongside luxury labels including MYKITA, Masunaga, and Ray-Ban Meta.
Modern consumers view frames as personal style statements. Fusing clinical precision with curated global luxury labels positions physical stores as complete fashion destinations, stated a retail market research analyst. The strategy capitalizes on strong financial momentum, with FY2025 revenue reaching Rs 205.4 crore, up 11.9 per cent from Rs 183.6 crore in FY2024.
Experiential fashion retail expansion
Founded in 1959 in Kolkata, GKB operates multi-brand eyewear retail stores across major Indian metro markets. Specializing in designer frames, sunglasses, and advanced lens technology, the chain is executing an aggressive network expansion toward Tier-I and Tier-II fashion hubs, backed by steady double-digit top-line growth.
